Fun Fall Family Outdoor Activities

POE oct blog 1

While we may have seen the last of the summer weather, there is so much to look forward to as the seasons shift. Don’t miss out on all autumn has to offer. The changing leaves and colder temperatures create the perfect atmosphere for so many fun family adventures.

We believe fall days are best spent outside with those we love most. Therefore, we have decided to share some of our favorite activities that the entire family can enjoy together.

Go on a Hike
With so many state and national parks in the Midwest, this is the ideal time to take a day to appreciate what Mother Nature has to offer. Whether you choose to go somewhere near or far, there’s no better way to admire the stunning changing leaves than going on a family hike.

Host a Backyard Cookout
Barbeque season doesn’t end after the 4th of July; some of our favorite fall memories are spent around the grill while watching a good football game. Turn your backyard into a multifunctional space, and keep everyone well entertained.

Startup Composting
Do your part to help protect the environment and create backyard compost. This easy activity is both enjoyable and eco-friendly. Check out our prior blog for easy steps on how to start up your own compost this autumn.

Decorate for the Season
Getting in the holiday spirit? Whether you’re putting up decorative spider webs or a new fall wreath, accessorizing your outdoor spaces for the season is always a good idea. Gather the family together and get crafty.

Go Apple Picking
One of our all-time favorite fall events is heading to a local apple orchard. Enjoy a family outing to get fresh apples and enjoy the other amenities and food that are often offered at the orchards.

Stay Active
The crisp weather is ideal for running, biking or even playing a small game of touch football. Move off the couch and get the whole family involved and having fun!

Get the Garden Ready
Whether you’re raking leaves or planting seasonal vegetables, there’s room for everyone to help prepare for the impending cold weather. Some of our preferred fall-harvested veggies are carrots, brussels sprouts and arugula.

So, what are you waiting for? It’s time to start checking things off your family’s fall bucket list! Whatever you do this season, we hope you relish the outdoors and the natural beauty that comes with it. Welcome autumn by getting outside and spending quality time with those you care about most.
