Extravagant Outdoor Entertainment - River Forest, IL

This project was really fun for our design team to work on. Our client wanted to remove the existing deck that stood above the ground by about 50” and create a new multiuse outdoor environment to accomplish just about everything on their wish list.

• Covered pavilion structure
• Outdoor kitchen with a grill, green egg smoker, refrigerator, and plenty of prep/workspace
• Bar seating with a clear view of the kitchen and TV
• Fire feature built-in to the counter
• Outdoor TV and audio
• Built-in heaters for those chilly nights
• An area to chill and read a book during the day
• Work in different types of materials, textures, and colors to make the project different and stand out

Our team was ready to take on the task of designing this beautiful outdoor space. After a couple of different conceptual designs and renderings, the client said we nailed it with the final design.

This project presented some problems at the start with the demo; two basement windows below the deck needed to be removed, a hose spigot needed to be relocated, and a retaining wall up needed to be built against the house with a dimple board and a drain tile system to keep the pressure of the house and waterproof the area. Lastly, we disconnected the power to the home and raised the service up by 8 feet to accommodate the new pavilion. Once that was complete, our construction crew was anxious to get started with the concrete foundation and start building the vertical structures, stairs, and landings. They first completed the pavers and flooring on the different levels. They then put the on finishing touches with the glass tile and stone veneer on the back wall which also supports the ventilation system for the grill and smoker. We created a space for the TV to make it look like it was built-in with incorporating some wood and glass tile so it tied into the kitchen area. Everything was complete when the plant material was installed. It felt cozier with the privacy trees, flowing trees, and shrubs, while also adding perennials for seasonal color.

Could you imagine walking out into this space every day or night? This outdoor room truly defines the term “Outdoor Living”. We check everything off the list with a kitchen and bar that can seat plenty of people whether they are enjoying drinks, dinner or just relaxing and watching a movie or a game. Feeling a little chilly, we solved that too with builtin sleek and modern heaters. You can also warm up around the recessed fire feature that is on the countertop. You can kick back and relax on the lower patio and read your favorite book. Additionally, the lighting truly highlights all of the different colors, textures and plant material at night. This space is so sweet that our client enjoyed Christmas outside this past year!
